Trent drew out this year for the muzzleloader hunt. He decided to start hunting on opening morning, which fell on Wednesday the 23rd. He hunted that day out by Hatch with my Dad serving as a hunting guide! He saw some deer, missed one of them & returned back to the cabin to stay the night. We were hoping that he would get a deer so he would be home for Lainee's 8th birthday the next day. But he didn't.
So day 2 of the hunt, Lainee's birthday, he went out to Big Hill, which is by Hatch but not the same place he hunted the day before. He called me to tell me that he had missed another deer & he was SO mad that he did! It was a 60 yard shot on the run & did I mention that he was mad that he missed? Trent was ready to stop hunting & head back to the cabin but my Dad kept him going. They drove around Big Hill for a while & then Trent spotted a deer laying 15 feet away from the truck & knew it was injured so he also knew that he didn't actually miss at all! He got out & the deer got up & jumped the fence so he shot & dropped it! Trent tells the story alot better than I do but I majorly shortened it for your reading benefit!
Rigby got to go up to the cabin with Trent on a "boys trip" & he hung out with Grandma Wilson while the big boys hunted. Rigby said that the girls couldn't come because it was only for boys - its not a girlish thing! They got to come home just in time for Lainee's birthday party that afternoon.
I also need to mention that we packaged the deer ourselves! About 80 steaks & 17 lbs of hamburger! That was nasty! And just a few days earlier, I bottled 41 pints of chicken! I feel so domestic! Oh I should of taken pictures of all that too! Anyways, thanks to our outfitters - Richard & Carolyn Wilson for the accomadations, food & private guide - oh lets not forget babysitter! New post from the rest of the day to come soon!
Nice job Trent!
Trent sent this picture message to me saying "I guess I didn't miss!"
